Rules for the proper and safe use of jewellery
– Jewellery should be removed before:
▪ showering, bathing, swimming pools, saunas, tanning beds,
▪ all medical and beauty treatments and procedures
▪ cleaning and hygiene procedures involving contact with chemicals and detergents (e.g washing, laundry, etc.)
▪ contact with other chemicals, especially those containing acids, alkalis, chlorine, iodine, mercury, sulfur, and their compounds, as well as dyes, varnishes, and solvents (e.g., nail polish remover, stain removers, etc.)
▪ activities involving contamination, mechanical contact, and friction (working in the garden, garage, etc.)
▪ contact with abrasive substances and materials (files, household cleaning products containing pastes and abrasive elements, toothpaste, etc.);
▪ Physical activity (sports, training, physiotherapy, and other high-impact activities that pose a risk of breakage or snagging).
▪ Changing clothes (removing clothing or changing with jewelry on can lead to snagging, tearing, or deformation).
▪ Before bed.
▪ Before examinations that expose you to radiation.
– Avoid contact of jewelry with chemicals (detergents, cosmetics, perfumes, paints, varnishes, solvents, etc.).
– Apply cosmetics and perfumes before putting on jewelry. Put jewelry on after creams and lotions have been absorbed.
– Avoid contact of jewelry with sharp or rough objects (knives, files, sharp, rough surfaces).
– Protect jewelry from sudden or strong shocks, which may break the integrity of the elements (breakage, deformation).
– Protect jewelry from contact with hard surfaces, such as impacts, dropping, pressure, crushing, etc., which can damage both the stone and the gold and silver elements.
– Protect jewelry from exposure to open flames, high or low temperatures, and rapidly changing temperatures (e.g., in saunas and tanning beds).
– Do not clean jewelry yourself in home ultrasonic cleaners, as this may damage the jewelry and the stones within.
– To clean jewelry, use soft cotton cloths or mild cleaning fluids designed for specific jewelry types. – Store each piece of jewelry separately in a soft case or bag to avoid scratches, chips, and tangling.
Safety and Hazards
– Nickel, cadmium, lead (NI, PB, Ca) content – in accordance with the EU directive – guaranteed by reputable manufacturers of gold and silver components used in jewellery assembly. Individuals allergic to these elements should exercise particular caution. Gold earring posts are nickel-free. Products made of 375 gold are also nickel-free.
– Necklaces are mounted on bendable rings so that if a sudden, strong tug or pull occurs, the ring opens and the chain breaks, preventing injuries or abrasions. Furthermore, thin chains are used, but if a sudden, very strong tug occurs, they break. This is a compromise between safe use and the risk of loss or damage to the product, where protection from bodily harm should be prioritized. Therefore, care should be taken when using chains (see jewelry care instructions) to ensure they do not snag on anything and are not lost or damaged by falling, pulling the ring open suddenly and breaking the chain (the stone will then separate from the chain, and there is a risk of it being lost, broken, or chipped). It is particularly not recommended for minors to wear chains due to the risk of insufficient care, which may result in the loss or damage of the necklace or its component (stone).
– Earrings are mounted on studs with butterfly-shaped plugs. This is a safe type of fastening that protects the ear from tearing if the earring is pulled sharply. This causes the stopper to slip out of the stud, and the parts of earring separate. This can damage or lose the earring if it falls onto a hard surface. Do not replace the earring clasp with a different type that will not open when pulled sharply and forcefully, as this could tear the ear. This is a compromise between safe use and the risk of loss or damage to the product, where body protection should take priority. Therefore, care should be taken when using dangling earrings to ensure they do not catch on anything and are not lost or damaged in the event of a fall after a sharp and forceful pull and opening of the clasp (separation of the stopper and stud). In particular, long earrings are not recommended for minors due to the risk of loss or damage if not handled with care.
Keep out of reach of small children, people with intellectual disabilities, and people with mental disorders (risk of swallowing and choking). Jewellery may be attractive to these individuals (shiny and colorful) and may attract attention.
